Asian Lantern Festival

Taking over parks and zoos across the country, the traveling Asian Lantern Festival shows off thousands of colorful handmade paper lanterns in open, green spaces. This year’s festival at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will include an Asian craft market and Asian food vendors. The event takes place from 6:30 to 10:30 tonight through Sunday. Sam Barber

The singer-songwriter performs at 6 p.m. at Jacobs Pavilion. Waylon Wyatt and Wild Horses open. The tour supports Barber’s new album, Broken View, an album that shows off his husky voice. Opening tune “Borrowed Tune” has a Bob Seger feel to it and will likely figure into tonight’s set.

Joe Gatto

Best known for TV shows such as Impractical Jokers and The Misery Index, comedian Joe Gatto brings his standup show to Hilarities. Gatto is also the co-host of the Two Cool Moms Podcast. He performs at 7 tonight and has shows scheduled through Saturday.

Guardians vs. New York Mets

The New York Mets, a team loaded with some of baseball’s biggest stars, just haven’t been able to get it together. The team missed the playoffs altogether last year. It appears the guys will come up short again this year. They play the Guardians at 1:10 p.m. at Progressive Field.

The Lion King

Winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the play presents a story “filled with hope and adventure set against an amazing backdrop of stunning visuals.” The play also features the work of Tony Award-winning choreographer Garth Fagan and tunes written by Tony Award-winning artists Elton John and Tim Rice. Tonight’s performance takes place at 7:30 at the State Theatre, where performances continue through Aug. 16.

Mean Girls

The musical adapted from the film by the same name comes to Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood. It centers on a teenager who must navigate “frenemies” at her suburban high school. Tonight’s performance takes place at 7:30, and the play runs through Aug. 9.

Medina County Fair

Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival

The event billed as “football’s greatest week” comes to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton this week. The Arizona Cardinals will play the Carolina Panthers in the Hall of Fame Game, and the country act Lainey Wilson will perform as part of the festivities. Check the website for a complete schedule.

Public Square Movie Nights

Sister Act Presented by Akron Civic Theatre’s Millennial Theatre Project

American Football

Dutchman

This confrontational one-act play (written by Amiri Baraka formerly LeRoi Jones) which premiered at the Cherry Lane Theatre in 1964 remains “a fascinating exploration of racial identity, oppression  and power dynamics,” as it’s put in a press release. Riley Green: Cowboy as It Gets Tour 2026

How To Train Your Dragon in Concert

Old Brooklyn Art Hop

As part of the Third Annual Old Brooklyn Art Hop, Pinwheel Gallery and Logo Creative Studio will host opening receptions, and a dozen other venues are planning art-related events. All the participating venues will also have a section of what will come together to create a modular mural for Art Hoppers to help paint during the evening. The finished mural will be assembled and displayed on Broadview Road during Old Brooklyn Streetfest. The event takes place from 5 to 9 p.m.

Union County

Actors Will Pouter and Annette Deao and director Adam Meeks will be on hand for this early screening of Union County, a film about two brothers trying to make it through a drug rehab program. Marlon Wayans

Evanescence

While this rock band is best known for its 2003 record Fallen, new singles such as the Garbage-like “Fight Like a Girl” show that it remains relevant. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at Blossom. Spiritbox and Nova Twins open, and the group has reportedly partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket sold will support organizations providing humanitarian aid and medical relief to people around the world.

An Evening of Poetry with Donald King

Raised in foster care, poet Donald King spent much of his youth navigating hardship. But he channeled that struggle into his poetry after his wife encouraged him to begin writing. Founded in 2015, BorderLight Festival is a nonprofit whose mission is to present innovative theater that “inspires, builds cross-cultural understanding, and celebrates the diversity of the human experience,” as it’s put in a press release. Light Up the Lake

This free Fourth of July celebration will begin at dusk over Lake Erie from the Port of Cleveland. The fireworks will last about 20 minutes.

15th Annual International Horror Hotel Film Festival

Dan O’Shannon, an Emmy-winning and Academy, Award-nominated writer and producer whose credits include Modern Family, Frasier, Cheers and Newhart, is among the guests at this annual event that’ll feature screenings of some 175 films. New for 2026 is Filmmaker Bingo, a kickoff event in connection with Women in Film & Television Ohio (WIFTOH). Also debuting this year is the Spooky Sunday Costume Competition. The competition lineup also includes a timed filmmaking challenge. Festival programming will run from today through Sunday.

The Avett Brothers and Mike Patton Present AVTT/PTTN

Cleveland Metroparks Summer Concert Series

The Secret Garden

Tommy Stinson

As a key member of the Replacements, the terrific ’80s post-punk act from Minneapolis, Tommy Stinson cemented his musical legacy. He continues to flex his creativity with various solo projects and brings his latest tour to the Treelawn tonight. The group English Teeth will back Stinson for a set and then Stinson will play an acoustic set. The band and Stinson will return for another hour of “loud, rockin’ material.”

Ajayi Dance: Half the Sky

This local dance company features a cast of 18 dancers who’ll present new and recent work by founder and director Melissa Ajayi. Tonight’s performance takes place at 7:30 at the Westfield Studio Theatre, where performances continue through Sunday.

Ballet Under the Stars

This performance from Ohio Contemporary Ballet will commence with a free ballet class for kids. Bleachers Forever

The Strokes: Reality Awaits North America

In the late ’90s, the Strokes heralded a new age of garage rock that included acts such as the White Stripes and the Hives. When that scene simmered, so did the Strokes. Singer Julian Casablancas pursued a solo career, and the group would reconvene to play the occasional festival. Just this year, the band returned with a new studio album, and this tour supports that release. Tonight’s show begins at 7 at Blossom.

He’s continued to have a successful solo career and released his latest effort, Crazy Times, with his backing band, the Circle, two years ago. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m.

Mindfulness for All

Local musician LaToya Kent created this program a few years back and taught it throughout the Cleveland School District. Now, she brings it to SPACES. Sean Chambers Band

This blues guitarist has been a staple on the blues scene for decades now.
