{"id":333769,"date":"2026-08-10T14:54:36","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T14:54:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.clevescene.com\/?p=333769"},"modified":"2026-08-10T14:54:40","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T14:54:40","slug":"cleveland-public-library-employees-set-strike-date-of-august-24-as-negotiations-continue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.clevescene.com\/news\/cleveland-public-library-employees-set-strike-date-of-august-24-as-negotiations-continue\/","title":{"rendered":"Cleveland Public Library Employees Set Strike Date of August 24 as Negotiations Continue"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unionized Cleveland Public Library employees are poised to strike August 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is, if a re-negotiated bargaining contract isn\u2019t agreed upon between the workers\u2019 union, Service Employees International Union District 119, and the library by noon that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Roughly 400 employees are involved in the current contract negotiations, though it\u2019s hard to say exactly how many will strike if negotiations go south, CPL spokesperson Andrianna Sheriff wrote Scene in an email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seven bargaining meetings have happened, including one Friday afternoon, since Scene broke the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clevescene.com\/news\/cleveland-news\/cleveland-public-library-employees-vote-to-approve-strike\/\">news of the strike authorization vote on July 14<\/a>. Pay increases, staff shortages, outsourcing and workplace safety are all issues on the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBecause negotiations are ongoing, the library cannot discuss specific proposals or areas of disagreement,\u201d Sheriff told Scene.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur focus is on reaching an agreement that supports our employees,\u201d she said, \u201cwhile ensuring the library can continue providing sustainable, high-quality programs and services to the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If those 400 do strike, CPL\u2019s Main Building and its two dozen other branches will attempt to stay open in some capacity, as they did during the pandemic, an employee not authorized to comment to media told Scene in July.
